Intervention Assistance Team

The Intervention Assistance Team consists of a group of people who come together regarding a student who is having difficulty in school. The group of people may include teachers, support staff members such as the psychologist, counselor, social worker, nurse, administrator, special consultants, parents, and when appropriate, the student. These individuals meet to define the area of concern for the student. The IAT members problem solve some different solutions to implement to help the student be more successful in school. The group will document what interventions will be put into practice, who will be responsible to help carry out the interventions, the timeline when the group will meet again, and document the outcome of the intervention. The team will reconvene and discuss the outcome of the interventions as to whether or not the interventions were successful. If the interventions were successful, the team would continue to monitor the student’s progress. If the interventions were not successful, the team would problem solve the concerns, develop different interventions, and continue to monitor. The team may recommend that additional formal testing is needed, if members suspect that the student may have a disability.

If your child is having difficulty in school, please contact your child’s teacher for information regarding the Intervention Assistance Team process in their school building.
