The Springboro High School (SHS) vocal department will present the Broadway musical Hairspray April 3 though April 6. Hairspray, the winner of eight Tony Awards including Best Musical, is a family-friendly musical based on the New Line Cinema film written and directed by John Waters, with the book by Mark O’Donnell and Thomas Meehan, music by Marc Shaiman, and lyrics by Scott Wittman and Marc Shaiman. The cast of more than 100 SHS students will perform at 8 p.m. on April 3-5, and at 3 p.m. on April 6 in the SHS auditorium. All seats are reserved and cost $12. Advance tickets may be purchased by calling 937-748-3950, extension 4659.
Beth Jamison, Director, and Leslie Sharkey, Music Director, note that the show is “set in 1962 in Baltimore, and the lovable, plus-size teen Tracy Turnblad has only one desire -- to dance on the popular Corny Collins Show. When her dream comes true, Tracy is transformed from social outcast to sudden star. She must use her newfound power to dethrone the reigning Teen Queen, win the affections of heartthrob Link Larkin, and integrate a TV network, all without denting her 'do!”
