Cincinnati’s Freedom Center was at Springboro Junior High School on Friday, February 23, visiting all eighth grade Social Studies classrooms. Aligning with the eighth grade Civil War and Reconstruction state standards, this presentation provided students information on the Underground Railroad and national/regional contributions of African-Americans. In addition, a local focus was emphasized, including:
The connection of the Underground Railroad from Cincinnati to Springboro.
Jonathan Wright, his home, and how he conducted his businesses with other Quakers and the enslaved people seeking freedom in the area.
The roles played by the cities of Franklin, Waynesville and Lebanon during the Underground Railroad.
Houses in the downtown district of Springboro that have tunnels used during the Underground Railroad.
