Andy Goldsworthy is a British sculptor, photographer, and environmentalist who is internationally known for using materials found in nature for site specific works of art.
For a recent lesson plan, "Ode to Goldsworthy," Mrs. Sav's Springboro High School (SHS) Sculpture students researched Goldsworthy's work, created sketches, and then went outdoors to complete their own sculptures with objects found in nature.
Students focused on balance, composition, pattern, light source, camera angles, and being innovative with their materials. The students took to the fresh air and assembled unique works of art in creeks, their backyards, along hiking paths, and even incorporated some sculptures within trees.
