Five Points Students Compete in GeoBee

Five Points GeoBee Students

For the 32nd year, the National Geographic Society held the National Geographic GeoBee for students in the 4th through 8th grades. Five Points Elementary held their GeoBee, where twenty (20) students from 4th and 5th grade competed to advance to the next level.

Fifth grade student, Ryan Hickey, won the Five Points GeoBee for the second straight year. Last year, Ryan advanced to the next level as the only 4th grader in the State of Ohio to advance. Congratulations, Ryan!

The champion of the Five Points Elementary GeoBee will advance to the next level of competition, a qualifying test to determine state competitors. Up to one hundred (100) of the top test scorers in each state become eligible to compete in their State GeoBee. The winners of the State GeoBees receive an all-expenses-paid trip to participate in the GeoBee National Championship in Spring 2020. Students will be competing for cash prizes, scholarships and an all-expenses-paid Lindblad expedition to the Galápagos Islands aboard the National Geographic Endeavour ll.

Thousands of schools competed in this year’s contest from all across the United States and the five U.S. territories. Also competing are Department of Defense Dependents Schools around the world.

The National Geographic Society developed the National Geographic GeoBee in 1989 in response to concern about the lack of geographic knowledge among young people in the United States. Over more than three decades, 120 million students have participated in the GeoBee.
