Mr. Dave's Last Ride

Congrats Mr. Dave

Springboro Junior High School (SJHS) sent their beloved custodian, "Mr. Dave," off in style with one last ride around the school before his retirement at the end of the year. Friday, Dec. 20th marked Custodian Dave Combs’ last day with students. The hallways were packed with students and staff from SJHS celebrating and cheering on Mr. Dave, who rode the floor Zamboni one last time highfiving everyone around.

Dave Combs started at Springboro Schools in 1995 and is retiring with twenty-five (25) years of work, as a Custodian. Mr. Combs started at SJHS when it was the now Springboro Intermediate (SI) building. Dave then transferred to Clearcreek Elementary in March 2000 for a day shift position, before ultimately moving back to SJHS in 2010, where he’ll finish out his career. Whether it was elementary students asking if Mr. Combs could read to their class, to Junior High students inviting Mr. Combs to attend several of their ballgames, or students telling their teacher, “We want Mr. Dave to help us,” when they needed help opening something from their lunch, there was no shortage of heart-warming stories that surrounded Dave Combs. One story in particular involved a young student whose parents and grandparents could not attend a holiday party at school, where all the other students had a family member join them. The boy asked if Mr. Dave could be his guest. Mr. Combs happily accepted, attending the holiday party at school with the student in the afternoon, after his shift had ended. “I have thoroughly enjoyed this job, and was delighted to be there for the staff and students of Springboro Schools,” said Dave Combs, who is set to officially retire on Monday, December 30th, while Springboro Schools is on Winter Break.

Dave Combs is truly one of the greats in the Springboro Schools' family. Thank you "Mr. Dave!" Enjoy your retirement, you will be missed!
