SHS History Teacher Mobilized for Active Duty
SHS History Teacher and Student
Keith Pohlman, a history teach at Springboro High School, has recently been given orders to be mobilized for active duty in the United States Army Reserves. Staff Sergeant (SSG) Pohlman, who has been teaching both history and Advanced Placement (AP) World History with Springboro Schools for five (5) years, and has served in the United States Army Reserves for thirteen (13) years working in Network Security, will be mobilized to the Continental United States (CONUS) Replacement Center (CRC) at Fort Bliss in El Paso, Texas, in early October 2018.

At the CRC in Fort Bliss, SSG Pohlman, a 2016 EPIC Teacher of the Year Award Recipient, will be training US Service Members in a variety of fields before their deployment overseas. This training is essential in order to prepare US Service Members for their specific duty. Specifically, SSG Pohlman’s teaching will ensure US soldiers receive, process, and conduct Theater Specific Individual Requirements Training (TSIRT) for military Non-Unit Related Personnel (NRP) and Department of Defense (DoD) Civilians.

Previously, in 2007, SSG Pohlman was deployed for one (1) year to Camp Bucca, Iraq, with the 391st Military Police Battalion out of Columbus, OH. He served as the Information Technology support for nearly one-third (1/3) of the US military compounds in the area. Following this, SSG Pohlman was deployed in 2010 for one (1) year to Kandahar Airfield in Kandahar City, Afghanistan serving as the 643rd Regional Support Group, also out of Columbus, OH, as Directorate of Information Management for the Garrison Command.

Upon his active duty completion, SSG Pohlman will return to the classroom as a history teacher at Springboro High School in October 2019.
