Principal's Welcome

Dear Parents,

As the new principal at Dennis East I would like to say welcome.  I hope you and your child are as excited as I am about the upcoming school year. Listed below is information that I hope will assist you as you prepare for the first day of school. Please review the following items.

 

First Day of School

Homeroom Class List
The homeroom class list will be posted at the entrance of Dennis Elementary on Friday, August 14, 2009 at 4:00 PM.

 

Walkthrough
Students and parents are invited to locate their classrooms on the dates listed below. Teachers will not be in attendance but the building will be open for a quick walkthrough. The schedule is as follows. We are doing this over two days due to limited parking.

Monday, August 17, 2009 – Grades 1&2:            6:00 -7:30 PM
Tuesday, August 18, 2009 – Grades 3, 4, & 5:     6:00 -7:30 PM

 

Student Tool Kits
Students that ordered the Student Tool Kits will be receiving the kits in class on the first day of school. A list of students that ordered the kits will be posted outside of each classroom during the walkthrough.

 

Nametags
Enclosed, you will find four nametags.  Please notice that your child’s nametag is white.  This will let the staff  know that your child is a Dennis East Elementary student.  Parents, please write your child’s first and last name on one nametag to be worn for the first four days of school.  If possible, please indicate your child’s homeroom teacher, bus number or indicate walker with a “W”.  On August 25th, when students arrive at Dennis Elementary, there will be staff members and volunteers available to assist students who need help finding their homeroom. Your child’s completed nametag will greatly enhance our ability to direct your child to the correct homeroom. 

 

Building Security
The security of your children is of the utmost importance so upon entering Dennis Elementary ALL visitors MUST show picture ID.

School Hours
School hours for the 2009-2010 school year will be from 8:45 am to 3:30 pm.  The busses will be unloading students at 8:35 AM. Because of limited bus service students will be able to enter the building from parent drop off beginning at 8:15 AM. This 8:15 time is subject to change as we adjust to limited bus service.

 

Student Drop Off and Pick Up
Due to this limited bus service this year we will have many more cars each morning and afternoon. The drop off and pick up for Dennis East is in the front of the school. Staff will be assisting and directing students as they enter the building. Parents are asked to remain in their cars to assist us in making the drop off and pick up run as smoothly as possible.  If your child is receiving bus service we urge you to use this service so that the number of cars in the morning and afternoon is kept to a minimum. If you typically take a picture of your child in front of the school, we suggest that you take care of this photo opportunity prior to the first day of school.

 

Dennis East Open House
Open House for Dennis East parents is scheduled for the first week of school. Parents will have the opportunity to meet their child’s teacher and learn about program and expectations for the year. This open house is for parents only. The schedule is as follows.

Wednesday, August 26, 2009 - Grades 2 and 4      – 6: 00 PM
Wednesday, August 26, 2009 - Grades 1, 3, and 5 – 7:00 PM

 

EZPay
Our online student fee payment system is up and running. The EZPay link is on our website at www.springboro.org/schools/dennis/east .  This is a great time saving tool for all of us. The transaction fee that parents have paid in the past has been substantially reduced from previous years. The previous fee of 3% of the transaction has been reduced to only $1.00 per transaction for this year.

School fees are listed below. Please note that fees are 7-14% less than last year.

Grade 4 - $86.41
Grade 5 - $79.37
