Principal's Welcome

To All Our Friends and Families,

 

Welcome back to a new school year!  I hope you had a wonderful summer and are looking forward to an exciting new school year.  I want to welcome our new teachers, staff and upcoming first and second graders. I must say that I am very proud of last years students, teachers, staff, parents and community for supporting a tradition of pride, excellences in education and a tradition of community support .  As a result our building and district has met the state rating of Excellent.

 

The educational community is very proud of our student success and our district EXCELLENT rating this past school year.  Now as we look to the future and prepare ourselves for this upcoming school year, let me take this opportunity to invite our parents and friends – no better yet… urge them to ….volunteer at the school.  There are and will be many opportunities to help out in the school and I truly believe that success for our students happens when we all work together for a common goal ……and that is our students and their educational success!

 

As we look ahead to this school year and planning for changes with bussing and transportation …we are asking for Patience, Understanding and Let’s All Work Together.  Check out the building web-site for additional transportation information.

We do have a change from last year and that is different times for our school day.  For 2009-10 our tardy bell will ring at 8:25 and we will have a 3:10 dismissal time.  With our earlier start time we will have an earlier lunch time.  Our second graders will go to lunch at 10:40.  Our first graders will go to lunch at 11:10.  A combination of third graders and fourth graders will go to lunch at 11:40.  And, a combination of fourth and fifth graders will go to lunch at 12:10.  Lunch periods are all 30 minutes, followed by a 30 minute recess period.

 

Your child will be bringing home a very important item and that is their agenda book (2nd – 5th grade only).  We need your help with making sure your child understands all the information, so I am asking that you take some time to review its contents with your child.  The agenda should be taken home and brought back to school on a daily basis.  And……the parent /teacher communication within the handbook can be most helpful for your child.

 

A reminder to you and our students, please don’t forget to attach your “Promise” and S.T.A.R.S. tags (first and second grade students will not have these tags) at the start of the school year) to your new book bags!  And……parents don’t forget to write your child’s name on all their belongings.

 

Finally, as we begin this school year I would like to take this time to inform and remind you of some important dates for the start of the school year.  And……..as always please give us a call if we can answer any questions.

 

Friday, August 14th, Posting of the Class Lists - - 4:00pm on the EAST side windows (playground side) at Five Points Elementary.

 

Student Walk thru (building visit only) – Monday August 17th, Grades 1, 2 - & 4 from 4:30pm – 6:30pm.  Wednesday August 19th, Grades 3 & 5 from 4:30 – 6:30.  This is an opportunity for your child to feel comfort and confidence moving throughout the building.

 

E-Z Pay – Parents can go to the district website, click EZPay and pay student fees or provide funds to their child’s meal accounts.   Lunch Price – $2.15 and milk price is .50

 

Bus Information – please call the transportation department @748-4462 if you have any questions! Specific walker and bus rider information is on the building website.

 

First Day of School – Tuesday, August 25th – School time is 8:25am to 3:10 pm!
