Principal's Welcome

Dear Five Points West Parents,

 

I hope you have been enjoying your time with family this summer. It is getting time for the new school year to begin and many of you are getting a little anxious so here is some important information for you to help get things started. We received the results of last year’s Ohio Achievement Tests recently and once again received an ‘Excellent’ rating.

 

Class lists will be posted online around noon on Monday, August 18. Hard copies of those lists will be posted on the East side doors of the building around 4:00 on the 18th. These lists will have grade level, teacher name, room number and a listing of all the children in that particular room.

 

We will hold a family walk-through on August 25 from 2:30-3:15. This is your opportunity to walk through the school and find your child’s room. The teachers will take a break from a staff meeting to be in their rooms for you and the children to stop in and say ‘hi’. I will call them back to complete the staff meeting at 3:15. While you are here don’t forget to visit the specials areas of music, art, PE, reading and the library. The walk-through helps to take any anxiety away from children coming here for the first time and even for those children going from the first floor last year to the second floor this year. After walking around their school, most children are very relieved to find out they are only going to be moving about in a small part of the building.

 

If you would like to help orient your child to the building while you are here that would be wonderful. Car riders are dropped off in front of the building in the mornings and enter school through the front side doors. All bus riders get off the buses on the east (playground) side of the building and West students enter the building through the doors by the cafeteria. The students come down the hall and will turn right at the office to go into the West academic area. For dismissal all of the buses are again on the east side of the building---no cars permitted--- and car riders are dismissed on the west side of the school. In all instances there is plenty of teacher supervision provided.

 

Our Open House will be the evening of August 27 and is really more of a parent orientation style event. Parents in grades 2-3 should plan on being here from 6:00-6:45 and parents in grade 4-5 should plan on being here from 7:15-8:00. Each session will begin in the cafeteria with a general session to go over some important information and to introduce the staff. From there you will proceed to your child’s classroom and your child’s teacher will go over classroom procedures and much more. Hope to see you that evening.
