The Miami Valley High School Theatre Awards (MVHSTA) Showcase recently took place at the Schuster Center in Dayton. Twenty-one (21) high schools participated in the event.
Springboro High School's musical Oklahoma received "Outstanding Production of a Musical" and "Outstanding Ensemble in a Musical" awards. Seventy (70) students from the musical attended and performed the song "Oklahoma" on the Schuster stage.
Five (5) lead roles in the musical received "Outstanding Lead Performer" awards and performed solos: Alex Grotjan (Curly), Haley Hemmelgarn (Aunt Eller), Peyton Knight (Ado Annie), Ben Locke (Will), and Ashley Ortel (Laurey). Two (2) students, Mason Melvin and Ella Widau, performed in the opening and closing numbers at the event.
