District Statement - Superintendent

Springboro Logo

Dear Parents/Guardians,

This letter is to inform you that over the weekend a Springboro High School (SHS) student posted a disrespectful and sexually insensitive photo on social media. Springboro Schools does not condone this type of behavior in any form.
Students were brought to the SHS office and questioned. The post in question is an inappropriate selfie photo that shows two (2) students in an SHS boys’ restroom. The post displays an inappropriate caption. It has been suggested the post was originally taken in a girls’ restroom, however this was not the case.

Again, Springboro Schools does not condone any type of behavior related to sexual harassment. The post in question is unacceptable and disgusting. This post has the strong impression of making female students feel at risk, and our district will not stand for any type of behavior that makes students feel this way. No students or staff were physically harmed. In the interest of transparency, we wanted our parents to be aware of this incident from the weekend. Our district is committed to the safety and education of all our students.

While the district cannot comment on specific student discipline matters, please know Springboro Schools is currently working towards appropriate discipline measures. The district is working with the Springboro Police Department, in regards to this incident.
We here at Springboro High School, and across the district, appreciate the willingness of our student, who immediately alerted a staff member via the district’s Public School Works system, to feel confident in following a “See Something, Say Something” mentality, which is promoted across Springboro Schools.

If you have any questions or concerns regarding this matter, please contact Springboro High School (937-748-3950). If you, or your student(s), have any direct concerns about student safety, please visit our Student Safety Reporting Webpage - http://www.springboro.org/studentsafetyreporting.aspx

Thank you,
Larry Hook, Superintendent
