The Ohio School Public Relations Association (OHSPRA) recently named Springboro Schools as their statewide “Best of the Best” Public Relations/Marketing Plan Award Winner for the State of Ohio. This award is part of the 2020 OHSPRA Achievement Awards.

Springboro Schools’ Public Relations/Marketing Plan, the “Trotwood-Madison Project,” a fundraising effort led by the district to help those impacted by the tornadoes near Trotwood-Madison City Schools, was selected as the top honor by the OHSPRA board members. The public relations/marketing plan centered on a district-wide fundraiser to provide aid to the more than two hundred (200) Trotwood-Madison City Schools’ students who were displaced from their homes, as a result of the tornadoes that struck Trotwood, OH on May 27, 2019.

District Communications Coordinator for Springboro Schools Scott Marshall said, “Thank you to OHSPRA for recognizing our district as a ‘Best of the Best Achievement Award recipient. The true honor in all of this was being able to work with the students, staff, and Board of Education of Trotwood-Madison to provide help to a school district that we consider family.”

Each of the district’s six (6) school buildings in Springboro Schools conducted their own type of fundraiser, which took place on various days throughout the months of August and September 2019. These fundraisers, which included a “Staff vs. Students Field Day,” were marketed/publicized throughout the Greater Dayton and Cincinnati areas, which included a wide range of news media coverage, spanning two (2) months, from WDTN (Ch. 2 – Dayton), WHIO (Ch. 7 – Dayton), WLWT (Ch. 5 – Cincinnati), WRGT (Ch. 22/45 – Dayton 24/7), WXIX (Ch. 19 – Cincinnati), the Dayton Daily News, “Springboro 45066,” and the Springboro Neighbors Magazine.

Through the district’s efforts, with a great deal of support from the Springboro community, the district-wide fundraiser raised $45,071.70 for Trotwood-Madison City Schools. This included $21,950.70 (Springboro Schools), $10,000 (Christ Church United Methodist), $8,310 (Image Mark It, T-Shirts), $2,611 (Kona Ice), $2,000 (Springboro Optimist Club), and $200 (Individual Community Member Donations).

“The Trotwood-Madison Project was an enormous effort put forth by the Springboro community, on all levels; our schools, students, parents, community members, business leaders, board of education, and those in the media, and it’s absolutely touching to see so many individuals come together for such a great cause,” Mr. Marshall continued.

In addition, Springboro Schools also just received the statewide “Mark of Distinction” Photography Award from OHSPRA for the photo, “Get Out the Vote!” that featured a Clearcreek Elementary student casting her ballot at school for “Favorite Movie.”

Earlier this school year, OHSPRA named Carrie Robbins, Co-Host of “Springboro 45066,” a local television show in Springboro, as their “Best of the Best” Friend in Education Award Winner for the State of Ohio. OHSPRA annually sponsors the Friend of Education Award to recognize those unofficial members of the school public relations team who go out of their way to help publicize positive stories about a school district.

The ceremony for the Achievement Awards has been rescheduled to take place during the OSBA Capital Conference this November.
