To Our Springboro Families:

We know the past two school years have brought unexpected challenges and inconveniences. We appreciate our community’s patience and understanding as we continue to work to keep our students safe and in the classroom.

As we have stated before, transportation continues to be a challenge throughout school districts in the State of Ohio. Springboro Schools is no exception. As a result of staff shortages, we have an excessive number of uncovered routes. Most of the time, these routes end up being covered by our Transportation Dept. office staff and/or mechanics, with minimal disruption to the school day. Unfortunately, this will not be the case going forward this week.

Due to an increase in driver shortages, several busing routes will be uncovered starting tomorrow, Thursday, January 20, 2022. Springboro Schools will be implementing an alternative transportation schedule for the remainder of this week, impacting certain bus routes. During this time, the following bus routes WILL NOT RUN:

Bus Number
Day(s) Route Will Not Run
#72 and #6*
Thursday, January 20, 2022
#42 and #55
Friday, January 21, 2022

*Bus #6 – The morning KG and Preschool students who come home on Bus #6, at mid-day, will be provided transportation home from school on Thursday, Jan. 20, 2022, but will not be provided transportation to school.

The bus routes listed above are only impacted on those days listed. If your bus route number is not listed above, your bus route is not impacted this week.

On the day when your child’s bus is not available, we are asking you to provide alternate transportation for your student(s). If you are unable to provide transportation and your child, who rides any of the buses listed above, misses school, the absence would be excused, and the student(s) will have the opportunity to complete any missed assignments. Please check with your student’s teacher to find the appropriate location for those assignments if you need assistance.

Please contact your student(s) school building directly if your child is unable to attend school on the day transportation has been impacted, for the absence to be coded correctly.

We recognize this is an inconvenience for the students and families impacted. Our goal is to keep school open and in-person. This decision, while not easily made and certainly a last resort, will aid in this goal. We know the best place for our students during the school day is to be with their teachers, learning in-person. We have exhausted all other options prior to implementing these transportation changes. If bus routes continue to be uncovered moving forward, the reality of having to combine routes, or even cancel further routes, could come to fruition even more throughout this school year. If further changes are needed, we will communicate this to our community. At this time, we are not aware of any other changes beyond those listed for this week.

As a district, we are committed to providing high-quality, safe transportation services that accommodate the various academic and extracurricular needs of our students. If you or someone you know is interested in becoming a bus driver, please visit our Transportation Dept. webpage - www.springboro.org/Transportation.aspx.
