To Our Springboro Families:
With regards to the recent tragedy yesterday at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde Consolidated Independent School District (UCISD) in Uvalde, Texas, our administrative team felt it was imperative to reach out to our fellow community members. Without question, this is heartbreaking and certainly a challenging time for all those involved. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Uvalde community as they begin to grieve and heal from this senseless, horrific event.
Springboro Schools would like to assure you that we take the safety and security of our students, staff, and volunteers very seriously. We commit, through regular and ongoing training, to ensure that our schools are places where students can learn and grow, free from concerns about safety.
Our district is extremely grateful to have a close partnership with the Springboro Police Department, the Warren County Sheriff’s Office, as well as the Clearcreek Township Police Department, and the Clearcreek Township Fire District who continually provide regular trainings for our staff. We also collaborate closely with national school resource officers to ensure the training we provide is best practice and is consistent with national, state, and local recommendations.
Daily measures are taken to ensure our schools are safe places. Our staff train for a variety of crises that may be encountered from health issues, accidents, intruders, and weather-related occurrences. We ensure our facilities are well maintained. Along with our District Crisis Team, each one of our school buildings has its own Crisis Management Team, which meet periodically. These teams have communication protocols and procedures that, in the event of an emergency, outline how they will communicate with community responders and parents.
While it is painful to think about an act of violence being attempted in one of our school buildings, please remember the important fact that our students, parents, and staff are our best line of defense. As a school district, we depend on our community to inform a school official if they are aware of any threat for us to investigate, as we take all reports very seriously.
Springboro Schools also shares in the overall well-being of our community. Our staff genuinely care for each student and work every day to provide the support necessary for everyone to grow and be life ready when they leave our school district. Our staff communicate with one another daily, and are well versed in identifying, assessing, referring, and supporting students who may be struggling. We have community partners who stand ready to assist parents or students in need.
We often hear from parents, “How can I help?” To this, our administrative team would encourage you to talk with your student about reporting concerns to district staff or law enforcement. Be aware of all surroundings. If something does not seem right, report it. If you see something, say something. Also, stay informed. Listen to your student and help your student to process any concerns.
School safety is everyone’s responsibility. We appreciate all those doing their part to ensure our schools are a safe place to learn and achieve. Our administrative team, staff, and Board of Education sends its condolences to every family member impacted by the senseless tragedy at Robb Elementary School, as well as all school districts throughout the world that have been affected by school violence.
