Free/Reduced Meals Application
Kitchen Staff
Please find important information on lunch payments, PaySchools Central, as well as Free/Reduced Meal Applications, for those families who qualify. Information in this letter applies to families who chose in-person (Model A), as well as at-home/virtual learning (Model B).

HOW TO MAKE A LUNCH PAYMENT
Due to COVID-19 we are encouraging parents to use our online payment system, PaySchools Central, to put money into student lunch accounts, in order to eliminate cash handling.   We will continue to accept cash or check, but we will NOT be giving any change back to students.  All change/cash will be deposited into your child’s lunch account.

Please Note: Parents who used PaySchools Central’s auto replenish feature for their student’s lunch account last year will need to set it up again for this school year.

FREE/REDUCED MEAL APPLICATIONS
Free/Reduced meal applications may be completed online through PaySchools Central or you may download a paper form to complete. If you need assistance with the application process please contact Kathleen Poor, Food Service Director [email protected].

If your child was approved for free/reduced meals last year, that benefit will carry over for the first thirty (30) school days this year. You MUST submit an application EVERY year unless your child was directly certified for free meals.  If that is the case, a letter was mailed in late July notifying you. If a new approved application is not on file with the district’s Food Service Dept. by October 19 your child(ren) will lose their free/reduced meal status.

AT-HOME/VIRTUAL LEARNING FAMILIES
If your child is at-home/virtual learning this year, it is still extremely important that you apply for free/reduced meals if you feel your family will qualify. Apply Here - Free/Reduced Meals Application

Students approved for free meals are eligible for school fee waivers regardless of whether they are attending school in person or at-home/virtual.

Free/reduced SJHS or SHS students are also eligible for a reduction in pay to play athletic fees.
SJHS students are eligible for scholarship assistance for the Washington DC trip, which was rescheduled for May 2021.
All free/reduced students can participate in our Boro Backpack program. This provides a bag of shelf-stable food items each week for all qualifying students. At this time, the district is working on a plan for our at-home/virtual learners on how they may pick up these food bags.

Federal and State funding for the Food Service Department is also tied to our free/reduced applications.
So please submit your application even if your children are at-home/virtual learning this year!
