A Message From Carrie Hester (April 13, 2020)
Carrie Hester

To our Springboro Families:

As the district’s Spring Break wraps up, we wanted to remind you that at home learning resumes again tomorrow. I wanted to reach out because this current situation we’re all in is not normal, and one in which we all had to act swiftly on, in order to prepare. These times are hard and we should all be together. We can do this!

I want to promise you that we will remain academically strong and intentional while also providing care, compassion, and flexibility. Moving forward, we are going to take this week by week, as new updates and guidelines continue to be presented by the State.

Please know that teachers are working hard to ensure students are presented with lessons that promote engaged learning, while also understanding the fact that many families need flexibility at this time. We know parents are still working, either at home or away. We also understand that parents may have been recently furloughed or laid-off while trying to academically support learning for their students. If times get too stressful or tough at home, we certainly understand the need for students to take a break when needed. If students need extra time to complete an assignment, that is not an issue. Teachers will continue to remain flexible with due dates for assignments and provide students the opportunity to redo work, as needed.

There are more questions than answers right now. We do know grading will look different for the 4th quarter, depending on the student’s grade level. Our building teachers and Principals will be in communication with you about these details and more throughout this process. Every household is different and we respect that.

We are still waiting on guidance/directives from Governor DeWine and the Ohio Department of Health to determine what the remainder of this school year will look like past the May 1 closure deadline. Once our district has this information, a plan for the end of the year will be communicated to you.

Above all, please do what is right for your family during this crisis, and take care of one another. If our staff can be of any assistance with questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to ask. We’re here for you. Remember our COVID-19 webpage (http://www.springboro.org/COVID-19Resources.aspx) will have the most updated information.

Most importantly, stay safe and stay healthy. Please reach out to us at any time with questions or concerns.

Stay Strong Springboro,
Carrie Hester, Interim-Superintendent of Springboro Schools
