District Statement: Springboro Schools CLOSED
Springboro Logo
We continue to monitor our positive COVID-19 numbers, including the number of teacher and staff absences. Like the rest of Warren County and the State, our COVID-19 numbers have been increasing. Consistent with what we were seeing before winter break, it is important to note that while certainly a contributing factor, in-school spread is not the primary cause of this upward trend.

Other illnesses typically on the rise this time of year are causing staff and student absences above and beyond those related to COVID-19. These absences, combined with a lack of substitutes, is a cause of great concern for all our school buildings across the district.

All school buildings will be CLOSED Thursday, January 13 and Friday, January 14. These will be considered “Calamity Days.” No remote/virtual learning will take place. Classes will resume in-person on Tuesday, January 18.

We apologize for the challenges this presents for many families, given the short timeframe. We simply do not have the teacher/staff coverage, due to absences, for all our students. Please understand this option is a last resort.

We will continue to do everything possible to keep our students in school, in person. We commend our principals, teachers, and building staff immensely for shifting schedules and covering classes when a substitute teacher is not available. Yet, in some locations, this is putting an unsustainable strain on our staff, as our absences due to COVID-19 and other illnesses continue to climb.

This is not a problem that is unique to Springboro. Districts throughout our region and the entire State of Ohio are facing the same challenges. To help offset this, we have increased our substitute pay and promoted the hiring of substitutes, educational assistants, and bus drivers throughout the school year. We would appreciate the support of our parents and community members who have continually shown their willingness to help during these unprecedented times.

Temporarily closing a school building or going to remote learning, due to a lack of substitutes, is not what we want to do. However, we want our families to be prepared in case we are forced to make more decisions such as this in the future due to teacher/staff absences and a lack of available substitutes. Any new adjustments will be communicated to you. Thank you for your patience and understanding as we continue to work through these difficult staff challenges.
