SJHS Students Present App Creator to Staff
App Creator Presentation

Maddison Brown, a Springboro Junior High School (SJHS) student in Ms. Demarse's App Creators class, has been working very hard to develop an app for SJHS students centered around educational technology.

The idea began with a classroom conversation about evaluating needs and coming up with solutions for personal, local, or global problems. Ms. Demarse and her students discussed ideas around natural disasters, improvements to education technology, and health care.

Maddison had an idea about direct communication to students, from the district, during a crisis situation. Maddison noticed that while there is a system in place that communicates to adults (parents, teachers, staff, community members, etc), there is not direct contact with the students through their cell phones on a large scale. Maddison has been working after school, at home, and during her lunch period with Ms. Demarse to develop an app that could communicate information about a potential crisis situation directly to students.

Maddison and classmate Ayoola Sobande, who helped develop the app, presented the idea to Principal Jon Franks and District Communications Coordinator Scott Marshall. Both students created a slide presentation stating the purpose, positive benefits, and features the app could offer staff and students. Mr. Franks and Mr. Marshall then posed questions to each student about the app.
