Ms. Nothstine’s Medical Detectives PLTW class is designed to introduce Junior High students to the world of medical and forensic sciences. Yesterday, 7th and 8th Grade students met with district staff, inclduing Superintendent Carrie Hester, who served as “patients” to be interviewed by the students and have their medical condition assessed, in order to determine a diagnosis.
Each patient had their own script and “medical file” for the interview. By sharing the patient's medical history, undergoing basic medical examinations, and engaging in discussions with our students, the “patients” played a role in helping our students apply their theoretical knowledge to real-life scenarios.
Through this program, the Junior High students gained a deep understanding of the scientific and analytical skills required in the medical field, including critical thinking, problem-solving, and collaboration.
