2 SHS Students Awarded AFJROTC’s J-100 Character-In-Leadership Scholarship

Owen Berrier and Gabriella Lawrence

Two SHS JROTC cadets were selected for the prestigious Air Force JROTC’s J-100 Character-In-Leadership Scholarship. SHS Seniors Gabriella Lawrence and Owen Berrier were recently named among 100 JROTC cadets worldwide selected for this scholarship.

"This scholarship is very special since it's only awarded to one hundred JROTC cadets nationwide and it's highly competitive, said Lt. Col. Todd Berrier (USAF, Ret), SHS Senior Aerospace Science Instructor, AFJROTC. “Both cadets have worked very hard since 9th grade and this is a culmination of that dedication and commitment to JROTC and their academic studies."

The J-100 Character-In-Leadership Scholarship pays full tuition for four (4) years at any college with an Air Force ROTC Detachment. The scholarship also pays a $10K-a-year housing allowance for university housing, as well as an annual book stipend. Lastly, the scholarship pays the cadet a monthly cash stipend for additional expenses related to the student’s education.

Gabriella and Owen were among five cadets in Ohio who received this scholarship. While in college, each cadet must be a member of the Air Force ROTC. Upon successful completion of college, they will be Commissioned into the United States Air Force as Second Lieutenants.
