SHS Senior Awarded $2K Margaret Barclay Scholarship Award

SHS Students

The Springboro Optimist Club has announced that Springboro High School (SHS) Senior Mallory O’Donnell is the recipient of the Margaret Barclay Scholarship Award. This $2,000 scholarship award is given to the winning local essay submitted in the Springboro Optimist Essay/Scholarship Contest. Thirteen (13) students submitted essays to the competition, which is open to any public, private, or homeschool high school student under the age of 19 who lives within the district of Springboro Schools.

SHS Seniors Ryan Burden, Ally Lawton, Liv Hemmelgarn, and SHS Junior Kate Hoehn also achieved monetary awards for their essays. All five (5) students received their awards at the Feb. 8 Springboro Optimists’ meeting.

The Margaret Barclay Scholarship honors the memory of one of the founding members of the Springboro Optimist Club. Margaret Barclay served as president of the Centerville Noon Optimist Club and Regional Governor in Ohio, and she was a long-time teacher and principal in Centerville.

The Springboro Optimists will send Mallory O’Donnell’s scholarship to her college for next fall. O’Donnell is still making her college choice, and she plans to study Journalism. Mallory’s essay now advances to district competition.
