Group Counseling

Counseling groups at Dennis are designed to help students build skills in common areas and work through difficult situations together.  Students may be referred for one of our groups by their counselor, teacher, parent, or through individual student meetings. Groups typically meet for six weeks and are typically held during lunch, intervention time, or during a mutually agreed-upon time with the students’ homeroom teachers.  Groups are formed based on need and by referrals from teachers and administrators. All groups may not be offered every year. However, students are always able to work on these issues individually with their counselor. The following groups have been offered in the past:

  • Lunch Bunch (involving social situations boys and girls are dealing with at the elementary level)
  • Social Skills
  • Changing Families
  • Worry Buster
  • Study Skills
  • Zones of Regulation
  • Friendship
  • Grief Group (facilitated by Fernside)
  • Military Families
  • Self Esteem Groups
  • Anger Management

*All students will be required to have a parent permission slip on file to participate in any counseling group.
