Springboro Intermediate School Counselor

Meet Springboro Intermediates School Counselor, Sarah Fox!  [email protected]

Mission Statement:

At Springboro Intermediate, our mission is to support and engage every student through a comprehensive curriculum that prepares and inspires them to reach their full potential. We are dedicated to challenging students academically and personally, fostering their social and emotional growth, and helping them regulate their emotions. By offering career exploration and guidance, we empower students to make informed choices about their futures. Our goal is to cultivate lifelong learners who are confident, resilient, and ready to learn in all aspects of their lives.

What do school counselors do?

Individual Counseling

  • Mrs. Fox offers individual counseling on a daily basis. Students fill out a slip to Mrs. Fox if they would like to see her. Teachers, parents, and administrators can also make a referral to Mrs. Fox if they believe the student would benefit from meeting.

  • Individual counseling is short- term based counseling, typically meeting for 6 weeks. Individual counseling is solution focused. If you feel as though your student needs longer term counseling, please reach out as Springboro has resources that can be recommended.

  • All counseling services are confidential between the student and counselor unless

  • The student says someone is hurting them

  • The student says they want to hurt someone

  • The student says they want to hurt themselves

  • The student gives permission to share with a trusted adult

Small Group Counseling

Small group counseling in 6th grade is a structured, supportive environment where students can address personal, social, or academic challenges with the guidance of Mrs. Fox. The group typically consists of 4 to 8 students who share similar concerns or experiences, fostering a sense of community and understanding among peers.

Sessions are safe, confidential, and respectful, providing a space for students to express themselves openly. Mrs. Fox’s role is to facilitate discussions, encourage self-reflection, and teach coping strategies, conflict resolution, and social skills. Activities might include guided discussions, role-playing, group problem-solving, or interactive exercises that promote emotional regulation and positive peer interactions.

The goals of small group counseling are to help students build resilience, develop emotional intelligence, improve communication skills, and strengthen their social connections.

Teachers recommend students for these groups. The below groups have been offered in the past:

Girls Group

Boys Group

Anxiety Group

Managing Emotions Group

Organization Group

Grief Group

Family Changes Group

Classroom Lessons

The focus in classroom lessons is on promoting social-emotional learning (SEL), developing life skills, career guidance, and addressing common issues that 6th graders face. Mrs. Fox goes into study hall every quarter to teach students how to navigate the Ohio Means Jobs website and gives students a chance to begin to explore career options. Fox Den lessons are presented once a month students, focusing on social- emotional learning.
