School Closing Information

We understand that our decision to open, close, or delay schools for inclement weather has a big impact on families. We also understand that our students are better served by being in school. As always, our top priority is the safety of our students and staff.

If school is kept open or delayed, and you believe it is not safe for your student to travel, please keep your student at home. You may call the school to get an excused absence and your student will be able to make up any missed assignments at full credit.

How Do We Make Our Decision?

The decision to delay or close school for inclement weather will never be a decision that is the best situation for every household. We monitor weather updates, consult with surrounding districts, as well as the city and township, and several of our staff members travel the roads before a decision is made.

Weather pending, our goal is make a decision and notify our families of any closings or delays, no later than 5:30 am. This decision, to stay open, close, or delay school for inclement weather, is based on a careful analysis of all relevant factors, such as:
  • Information on road conditions from transportation staff and police, with careful consideration to the most dangerous roads in our district
  • Amount of snow and ice accumulated
  • Whether precipitation is continuing
  • Parking lot conditions
  • Temperature and wind chill
  • Building conditions (electricity, heat)
  • Weather forecast

How Are You Notified?

We use the following avenues to notify our families and the public:

  • An all-call, automated phone message is sent to those on our distribution list (all parents/staff)
  • An email to those on our distribution list (all parents/staff)
  • Our district website, Facebookand Instagram will post an update
  • Local TV and radio stations in the Cincinnati/Dayton markets
